Where We Serve: German Auto Repair Across the Portland Metro

SERVICE AREATRAFTON'S JOURNAL

We have worked out of the same converted church at 15570 SE Stark Street since 1978. Sitting right on the Portland–Gresham line puts us within easy reach of most of the east metro, and our aircooled and specialty work brings people in from a good deal further than that. Here is who we see, and where they come from.

Portland

East Portland is home. Montavilla, Hazelwood, Powellhurst, Mill Park, Parkrose and Argay are all a few minutes away, and customers from Laurelhurst, Sellwood, Woodstock, Alberta and the Pearl make the drive because there are not many shops in the city set up for German cars top to bottom. Volkswagen repair in Portland is our oldest and largest business, and Audi and Porsche work has grown alongside it. If you are coming from the west side, I-84 to 148th or Powell to 162nd are both straightforward.

We are also one of the few shops in Portland still doing real aircooled Volkswagen work — Beetles, Buses, Ghias, Type 3s and Things — rather than turning them away.

Gresham

The shop is close enough to the city line that a lot of our Gresham customers consider us their local shop, and they are not wrong. Rockwood, Centennial, Wilkes East, North Gresham and Powell Valley are all short drives on Stark or Burnside. Volkswagen and Audi repair in Gresham makes up a large share of our weekly work, along with Mercedes service and diagnostics on newer cars the dealers want to send to Portland.

Clackamas, Happy Valley and Damascus

Straight down 122nd or I-205 and you are here in fifteen minutes. Audi repair in Clackamas and Happy Valley has become one of our busiest categories — a lot of Q5s, Q7s, A4s and A6s, plus the Volkswagen Atlas and Tiguan crowd. Sunnyside, Carver and Damascus customers tend to find us through word of mouth from someone who was tired of dealership pricing on the same job.

Milwaukie, Oak Grove and Oregon City

The 224 corridor puts Milwaukie and Oak Grove within a quick run of the shop, and Oregon City is not much further. We see a steady mix here: older Volkswagens that people intend to keep for another decade, Porsche Boxsters and Caymans, and Mercedes sedans coming in for service their previous shop would not touch.

Troutdale, Fairview and Wood Village

Everything east of us on Stark and Halsey is essentially next door. Volkswagen and Audi repair for Troutdale, Fairview and Wood Village is easy work for us to schedule, and if you commute west in the morning you can drop a car off on your way in.

Hood River and the Columbia Gorge

Hood River is an hour up I-84 and we have customers who make that drive on purpose. There is a real aircooled and vintage Porsche community in the Gorge, and specialists are thin on the ground out there. If you are coming from Hood River, Cascade Locks, Mosier or The Dalles, call ahead and we will try to group the work so the trip is worth making once instead of twice.

Vancouver and Camas

Across the river on 205 is a short trip, and Washington customers with Volkswagens, Audis and Porsches come to us regularly — particularly for pre-purchase inspections before buying something out of the Portland market.

Lake Oswego, West Linn and Tigard

The west and south metro is a longer drive, and the people who make it usually have a reason: an aircooled engine rebuild, a vintage Porsche, a Bentley or Lamborghini that needs someone who has actually seen one, or a car that has been to two other shops already. Our specialized services page covers what that work involves by make.

Sandy, Boring, Estacada and Corbett

The rural east side sends us a good number of Buses, Vanagons and Beetles, along with newer Volkswagen and Audi wagons that get used the way they were designed to be used. Gravel roads and long grades are hard on suspension, cooling and brakes, and we see that pattern often enough to know what to look at first.

Beaverton, Hillsboro and Aloha

Further out, but the Sunset and 26 make it manageable, and it is a common trip for owners of older Volkswagens and Porsches who would rather have the work done once. Worth booking ahead so we can schedule a same-day turnaround where the job allows.

What people search for, and what we actually do

If you found this page looking for Volkswagen repair in Portland, Audi repair in Clackamas, Porsche service in Gresham, Mercedes repair in Happy Valley, or aircooled VW work anywhere in the metro, that is all the same shop and the same crew. We are factory-trained on Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Lamborghini and Bentley, and the work runs from oil changes and brakes to timing service, water pumps, check engine diagnostics, air suspension and full engine rebuilds. Our services page breaks it down by make.

Not sure whether a job is worth the drive? Call the shop at (503) 253-4621 and describe what the car is doing. We will tell you what we think it is and what it takes to find out for certain before you commit to anything.
